Move Glossary

Every move in the game, grouped by the position you use it from. Most have to be unlocked with move points, but a handful are taught to you by specific people, and some you start with. The description on each move is the same text the game shows on the card. New to the sport? Start here.

92 moves19 positions10 groups

Move types

  • ATK36Scores. Takedowns, sweeps and passes are all attacks.
  • TRN31Moves you somewhere better without scoring.
  • SUB22Ends the match if it lands.
  • DEF4Gets you out, or keeps you where you are.

30 moves score, worth 2, 3, 4 points.

56 of the 92 moves can be upgraded. The filled dot is where a move starts when you unlock it, and each ring after it is an upgrade you buy with move points, up to legendary. One dot means the move doesn't upgrade. Upgrading raises the odds, not the points.

How moves are unlocked

  • Start31You start with it.
  • Move points47Bought with move points, rolled at random from that position's locked moves.
  • Gym leader4Taught for clearing a badge gym.
  • Ashi Academy5Taught for beating a fighter on the Ashi Academy ladder.
  • Class3Taught by Coach Herb at the end of a class course.
  • Secret1One person in the world teaches it, and nothing else does.
  • Belt2Unlocks on belt alone.

The 18 leg entanglement moves also need a purple belt on top of however you unlocked them. That applies to the opponent too.
